The Otto and Esther Murdock Family Scholarship

DESCRIPTION
The family of Otto & Esther Murdock has established a scholarship in honor of their parents. One award from the OTTO & ESTHER MURDOCK FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP Fund will be given to a Lexington High School graduating senior who enrolls in any of the main University of Nebraska campuses – Lincoln, Omaha or Kearney. The amount of the scholarship will be calculated based on the interest income from the endowment but will not be less than $500.00.

QUALIFICATIONS
Consideration for the scholarship may be given only to a graduating senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who provides evidence of being from a family of average or below average Nebraska income. This scholarship does include financial need as a qualifying factor.

INSTRUCTIONS
Each applicant should complete an application packet that will include:

  1. a cover page that includes the applicant’s name and recent photograph;
  2. the completed application page;
  3. college major and your career objectives statement (250 words or less);
  4. statement of financial need;
  5. two letters of recommendation completed by instructors whose class the applicant has completed or in which he/she is currently enrolled;
  6. a third letter of recommendation completed by an adult designated by the applicant outside the school other than a relative (employer, pastor etc.);
  7. a community / high school activities resume;
  8. a copy of an official high school transcript.

The application should be submitted to the counselor who will then submit it to the Lexington Community Foundation Scholarship Committee. Members of the Scholarship Committee will select the winner. The scholarship will be awarded at Honors Night. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

PAYMENT
Payment of this scholarship will be made after successful completion of the first semester or term of the freshman year with a grade point average of 3.0 or better, based on a 4.0 grading system, and proof of enrollment in the following semester or term.

In the event the recipient does not meet the required GPA, a probationary term, immediately following the recipients first term, will be granted. If the recipient’s 2nd term GPA meets the scholarship requirement, the scholarship will be awarded following the probationary term.
