Individuals, families, businesses and organizations have created permanent charitable funds to meet the challenges of changing times. The Foundation invests and administers these funds. We then use the distributions to award grants each year to many of the humanitarian, educational and cultural organizations in the community.
This web site is designed to assist donors, planned giving professionals and potential grantees better understand the mission of the Lexington Community Foundation and the programs we support.
MISSION STATEMENT:
The Lexington Community Foundation exists to encourage and strengthen philanthropy in order to provide a permanent source of funding for opportunities to improve the quality of life, strengthen the sense of community, and benefit future generations in Lexington, Nebraska.
History
The Lexington Community Foundation began in 1982 as the Dawson County Inc. Foundation. At that time the foundation operated as a separate fund under the Lincoln Foundation. In 1988 the name of the Foundation was changed to the Lexington Foundation, Inc. The Lexington Foundation obtained its 501(c)(3) tax filing status and at that time became independent of the Lincoln Foundation. In 1995 the Board successfully completed it's first capital campaign - Thanks A Million - in which $1M were raised to benefit the Lexington Middle School and the newly constructed Lexington Aquatic Center. In January 2004, the LCF successfully completed its second capital campaign raising $1.18M for a new library facility. In 2009, LCF board members joined community leaders in raising more than $750,000 for the YMCA of Lexington Founder's Fund. Currently, the Lexington Community Foundation has over $3.3M in assets.
